Kanter Sprains Ankle Against Mavericks
Tuesday, Oct. 13
According to Royce Young of ESPN.com, Kanter suffered a right-ankle sprain and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Anthony Slater of the Oklahoman noted Kanter was in the midst of an impressive performance before the setback with 17 points and 11 rebounds in 20 minutes.
Kanter has blossomed into a solid starter since joining Oklahoma City in a trade from the Utah Jazz last season. Although his defense leaves something to be desired, the 23-year-old is a versatile player who can play the 4 or 5 and is only bound to keep improving with Kevin Duranthealthy and occupying opponents’ attention in 2015-16.
Young big man Mitch McGary, 23, is a capable passer, has a nice shooting touch to provide some added points and should see his minutes increase while Kanter recovers. That’s especially so since raw 22-year-old Steven Adams is far more known for his defense.
Most of the offense will still run through All-Stars Durant and Russell Westbrook, but Kanter’s production in the paint can’t be replaced. The good news is Oklahoma City is deep up front and has two promising players to develop in McGary and Adams in addition to Kanter.
