Food for kids

Enes Kanter has teamed up with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to help fight hunger in the state.

He recently packed and delivered 25 meals to students at Van Buren Elementary in south OKC as part of the food bank’s Kids Cafe after-school program to feed students who might not otherwise get dinner.

The program provides food, mentoring, tutoring and a variety of other activities to approximately 6,300 at-risk children at 26 Kids Cafe and 11 after-school snack sites in central and western Oklahoma. In 2015, Kids Cafe sites collectively served 257,877 meals. Along with the partnership, Enes will also host a monthly cooking show at his house--Kitchen Eleven--where he will be joined by a local chef and they will prepare a meal together.

After each show Enes will donate 5,000 meals to the food bank. Check for Kitchen Eleven here or on any of Enes's social media platforms! Enes is taking his fight against hunger to the court, where he will donate 10 meals per each basket and rebound he makes during all home games in December. The meals are donated to the Regional Food Bank’s Food for Kids Backpack Program, which provides chronically hungry children with backpacks full of nutritious, kid-friendly and shelf-stable food to sustain them over weekends and school holidays. During the 2015-2016 school year, the Backpack Program provided more than 2 million meals to nearly 18,500 elementary school students.

Partner with Enes to fight hunger by texting “EK11” to 501501 to donate $10 to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. Every dollar donated provides the equivalent of five meals. With the Regional Food Bank and the support of you, Thunder Nation, this program can change lives this holiday season.
